Esperanza Segarra
is a senior associate in the firm's Miami office with extensive experience in the defense and trial of various cases at courts in both the state and federal level. Esperanza specializes in complex commercial and civil litigation with areas of concentration in banking litigation; mortgage foreclosures; mortgage brokerage litigation; securities litigation; bankruptcy; creditor's rights; receiverships and liquidations of insurance companies; residential and commercial landlord-tenant litigation; real property litigation; contract disputes; general commercial matters; family litigation matters, and corporate transactions. She is also experienced in appellate practice, and has presented oral arguments before the Third District Court of Appeals.

She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government and Politics with high distinction from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia (1997) and Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois (2001). During law school, she participated in and was a finalist of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition; she was also an executive board member of the Student Bar Association's Diversity Committee. While a visiting student at the University of Miami, School of Law, she participated in the Litigation Skills Mock Jury Trial, and was a winner of the competition.

Esperanza is admitted to practice in Florida, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, New York, and Washington D.C. She is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, and the Washington D.C. Bar Association.

Esperanza was an enlisted service member of the United States Air Force for seven years, and served in several stations, including The Pentagon and The United States Capitol. She also worked with The Carlyle Group, a billion dollar global investment firm based in Washington D.C., with a first-class management team dedicated to management-led buyouts and strategic minority investments, and venture capital focusing in telecommunications. Esperanza has worked significantly with child advocacy organizations and children's groups, including United Way, the Special Olympics, and Lawyer's for Children America, Inc. She is fluent in Spanish.
